State Youth Department
YOUTH MINISTRIES IN MOTION
The youth department offers several ministries in order to aid our youth in their development and growth. These ministries also provide a vehicle for fellowship among the saints.
Education- To provide a tutoring program for the youth to assist with their educational needs
Hospitality- To provide an atmosphere of welcome to our guest, those supporting the youth ministry for the first time, youth workers and youth leaders who are incapacitated. They are also responsible for securing care packages for our Youth President and Chairlady during our annual Convocation, annual Spring Workers Meeting and all other State functions.
Recreation- To create and encourage an atmosphere of fellowship among the youth and youth leaders. The goal of the recreation ministry is to provide avenues through which the youth will spend time in fellowship with one another. The recreation ministry will provide activities such as picnics, sporting events, and trips.
Youth Advisory Board- To provide an avenue for youth to express to leadership their concerns, needs and goals. Assist the youth leaders in efforts to best meet the needs of the youth.
Oratorical- To provide a program that challenges the written and oral communication skills of the youth. This program provides an avenue for the youth to discuss their views and/ or understanding of the Word of God as it relates to our spiritual, environmental and social relationships.
Bible Bowl- To provide a program that challenges the Biblical knowledge of our youth. This program, while competitive in nature, also lends itself to provide an avenue of recreation and interaction among the youth.
Young Men of Valor (YMV)- Young Men of Valor is a unique seminar specifically designed for young men in the Church of God in Christ, ages 13-19, who have a calling and interest in becoming leaders of their churches, communities, and understanding their role as men of God.
Mission Statement
To encourage growth in areas of self-discipline, self-assurance, leadership and love for God. The goal of Young Men of Valor is to ensure each young man will have the tools to act responsible in his family, church, school and community.
Our Goals
Expose our young leaders to Christian successful African American men in the
academic, corporate, social and religious fields.
Provide a forum that will enhance their self-esteem and establish a support system through open communication, knowledge, and brotherhood, to enrich their
Personal well-being. Understanding the meaning of true relationship with God and discovering his purpose for their lives.
Equip young men with biblical foundation and practical methods of dealing with
peer and family pressures.
Plant seeds that will initiate the enhancement of their leadership qualities and train
them in effective use of their leadership abilities.
Develop networks and utilize resources within and outside our Church of God in
Christ environment where young men of valor will be able to excel in their areas of interest.
Young Women of Excellence (YWE)
God’s mandate is that we train our young people in path or righteousness. Therefore, we the Church of God in Christ- Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Youth Department shall raise to the occasion. The Young Women of Excellence will explore areas that will stimulate changes in their spiritual and natural lives. Each young lady will have opportunities to grow in the areas of self-discipline, self-assurance, leadership, and most of all as a complete woman ready to be used for the Master’s will. At the end of this experience each young lady will have confidence to take her family, church, community and city to heights unknown.
Mission Statement
To encourage young ladies between the ages of 13-20 years of age to live life to its fullest by having good morals, budgeting principles, social graces, preparatory college skills, and to make good career choices.
Our Goals
To teach the organizational structure of the Commonwealth of Pa Youth Department and the functions of its ministries.
To provide instructional sessions that will enrich spiritual growth and development.
To provide steps with Scripture reference for soul winning.
To teach social graces to the young women of the Church of God in Christ. To teach appropriate conduct for various situations.
To equip young ladies with skills necessary for college preparation.
To prepare participants for the complete world of Corporate America.
To provide tips to enrich the personal well being of each YWE i.e., physical makeover, self-esteem classes, etc.
To increase each young woman’s level of awareness about stewardship, professionalism and etiquette. To teach appropriate conduct.
To develop a spirit of excellence about all things at all times.
